The Tech softball team is getting ready for their next tournament after competing in Palm Springs last week. The Golden Eagles will travel to Chattanooga to play in the Frost Classic this weekend. This afternoon’s action includes games with Sacred Heart and Missouri State, and then Tech returns to the field tomorrow to take on Valparaiso and Rhode Island. The tournament concludes on Sunday with a game against Princeton.
“We are very familiar playing at Chattanooga and it is almost like a home away from home for us so hopefully that will help us to play at a higher level,” coach Tory Acheson said.
The Golden Eagles took part in the prestigious Cathedral City Classic last weekend, playing high-profile teams such as Texas and Oregon State. They failed to come away with any wins, however, dropping all five games in the tournament.
“We are a very young team so we have had our ups and our downs but I feel very confident about this group of girls and about our season,” Acheson said. “We still need a couple of players to continue to improve for us to get where we need to be.”
Tech’s record stands at 5-9 with no conference games played to this point. The season is still young, which gives Tech some time to get things firing on all cylinders and build chemistry and confidence.
The Golden Eagles will be on the road again next weekend playing in another tournament in Louisville, Ky. They will begin conference play on March 14 on the road against Eastern Kentucky.
