The Golden Eagle football team returns home Saturday to face in-state Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay. Tech (1-2, 0-1 OVC) has fallen to the Governors by a mere three points each of the last two years.
This rivalry is also part of the battle for the Sgt. York Trophy, a head-to-head contest between the OVC schools located in Tennessee.
Senior quarterback Lee Sweeney is tied with Robert Craft for the Tech record for touchdown passes, with 38.
Sweeney is 238 yards away from the all-time passing record, which would also give him the mark for total offensive yards.
Sweeney lit up the Governors last year, throwing for 324 yards and three scores as the team totaled 444 yards and 22 first downs.
Sophomore receiver Tim Benford nearly broke a school record with 10 catches last year at Austin Peay. Benford racked up 123 yards and scored twice in the loss. (www.thisnation.com)
Sophomore running back Henry Sailes tallied 177 total yards in the contest, more than any Tech player managed in a 2008 game.
Sailes and fellow sophomore back Tremaine Hudson are expected to play after missing the Kansas State game with injuries.
The Saturday contest also coincides with Tech’s Parent and Family Weekend. Tickets are available by contacting the ticket office at (931)-372-3940 or order online at TTUSports.com.
Students are admitted free with a valid ID. The live broadcast on Magic 98.5 and Teamline begins at 6:30 p.m., with the kickoff at 7 p.m.
