The children and families of the Child Development Lab will be participating in a Trike-a-Thon on campus Friday to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The children are scheduled to ride their bikes and trikes around the planter in front of South Patio from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Little ones who can’t yet ride a bike, such as infants and toddlers, will be pushed around in a buggy. Approximately 32 pre-school children and 57 families will participate in the fundraiser.
Along with the ride, there will be a bake sale for which the parents make and bring in items such as cookies and brownies.
“We usually raise close to $1,000 each year,” CDL Director Angie Smith said.
The Trike-a-Thon is a program through St. Jude that includes learning about bike safety as well as participating in the fundraiser. With Bikewell Bear and Pedals the Bunny, the children have learned the importance of helmets, knee pads, and basic bike safety. They will also receive their license after completing the program
“We have a really good time,” Smith said.
All community members are invited to attend the fundraiser.
