On September 7, at 1:00 p.m. in Athens Georgia, the Golden Eagles look to shock the world as they will play the number one team in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Golden Eagles, led by first-year head coach Bobby Wilder, look to carry over their momentum from last Saturday’s loss to Middle Tennessee State 32-25 where the team almost secured their first FBS win in school history. The team showed improvement, and a new culture in hopes of having a great season.

The players look forward to the opportunity to play a championship-level program such as Georgia in hopes to shock the world and possibly pull off one of the biggest upsets in college football history.

The captain of the football team, graduate student Jordan Yates, talked about the opportunity of playing Georgia. “It’s an opportunity to play the number one team in the country that a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to. We look forward to it, but we treat it like any other game as far as how we prepare for it and our goal is to go out there and execute.”

Tech student journalist,  junior communication major Tyler Payne, talked about going to the game, and the opportunity to cover an important game for the university. “It’s been my dream to make a career out of sports someday and for this to be my first college football game that I get to cover is something I will never forget.”

Tech has the difficult task as they play the Georgia Bulldogs, led by Kirby Smart, where he has led the bulldogs to two national championships, and created a culture that encapsulates winning at a high-level, getting a great education, and developing talent to make it to the NFL. Carson Beck, the starting quarterback for Georgia, aims to become a Heisman candidate this season and is projected to be a first round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Golden Eagles also face the adversity of playing in Sanford Stadium, which according to EA’s college football ‘25 video game, sports writers ranked Georgia as the number five hardest stadium to play in the country.

Tech has a chance to do the unthinkable and prove the country wrong on Saturday. This would be one of the biggest upsets in college football history and a once in a lifetime opportunity for the players, and the coaches. Regardless of the outcome, this will make the team better for the season ahead and there is no better way to improve than to play the number one team in the land.
