Golden Eagle Soccer Conference Play Preview

The Golden Eagles open OVC play on Sunday, Sept. 22 in the capital of Arkansas to take on the Trojans of Little Rock.

Tech heads into conference play with a 0-6-4 record, while the Trojans will look to add another win to their 2-5-1 record.

Although their 0-6-4 record doesn’t seem promising or positive, you have to take into account that all of their losses have been a one-point game aside from a 3-2 loss to the Samford Bulldogs on Aug. 15.

In addition to the loss to the Bulldogs, Saint-Mary’s was an upsetting 4-0 loss at home on Aug. 22, as well as a 3-1 loss caused by a second-half resurgence from the Belmont Bruins on Thursday, Sept. 12.

They may not have a win to their record yet, but the Golden Eagles have had great success from multiple different players up to this point.

So far this season, sophomore forward Neve Renwick leads the team with 13 points, and graduate midfielder Lucia Caudra, junior forward Katie Toney, and freshman defender Anna Baker all have 4 points.

A highlight game for the Golden Eagles was the intense 4-4 draw with the Columbia Lions.

Renwick ended the contest with two goals and one assist, Toney and Baker each had a goal, and sophomore MTSU transfer Skylar Williams also tallied an assist.

Looking ahead, do not count the Golden Eagles out as a favorite to win the Ohio Valley Conference, despite the rough season so far.

With promising players already in their groove and players who will rise to the challenge during conference play, the Golden Eagles will remain a challenge for anyone in the OVC.

You can see the Golden Eagles at home next on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. vs. the SEMO Redhawks.
