The TTU women’s soccer team is off to a hot start in conference play with an impressive 4-1-1 record.
This early momentum will make life easier for the Golden Eagles as their conference schedule ramps up in the future.
Tech opened conference play against Little Rock on Sept. 22, falling one to nothing to the Trojans.
Coming off the loss to Little Rock, the Golden Eagles would go on to win four straight games in conference play.
To start the win streak, Tech took down Southeast Missouri (SEMO) three to nothing at home on Sept. 26. Goals from senior midfielder Meredith Nye (20), junior forward Katie Toney (6) and sophomore forward Neve Renwick (7) elevated the Golden Eagles to their first conference win of the season.
Tech then traveled to Martin, Tennessee, to take on UT Martin, beating the Skyhawks two to nothing. This improved Tech’s conference record to 2-1, with a home game against Morehead State on the horizon.
Against Morehead State, junior goalkeeper Maggie Conrad (0) saved a penalty kick late in the game to seal the deal against the Eagles one to nothing.
Sitting at 3-1 in the conference, Tech traveled to Evansville, Indiana, to take on Southern Indiana in search of their fourth-straight win in OVC play.
After the Screaming Eagles jumped out to an early one-nothing lead, the Golden Eagles rallied with four straight goals from redshirt sophomore defender/midfielder Claire Palya (8), grad transfer midfielder Lucia Cuadra (10) and two goals from Neve Renwick. This resulted in a four-one victory for the Golden Eagles and a conference record of 4-1.
Just this past Sunday, Tech returned home to take on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), standing at 2-6-4 and 1-2-2 in the conference prior to Sunday’s matchup.
The game resulted in a one-one tie as Tech’s Katie Toney scored a goal in the 62nd minute of the game to go up one to nothing.
However, after being awarded a free kick, SIUE’s Emma Czech scored to tie it up at one all in the 84th minute of the game.
It was a tough way to lose a conference game for the Golden Eagles, no doubt. However, sitting at 4-7-5 overall and, more importantly, 4-1-1 in the conference, is a good spot to be in at this point of the season.
This Thursday, Tech travels to Charleston, Illinois, to take on conference opponent Eastern Illinois. The Panthers currently sit at 4-6-5 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference.
Then, on Oct. 20, the Golden Eagles will travel to Macomb, Illinois, to take on Western Illinois, before returning home on Oct. 27 to take on Lindenwood.
